OPTICIAN - FRAME MAKER
Tortoise shell bespoke eyewear
Natural tortoiseshell is an exceptional material, historically prized in eyewear for its transparency, warm amber hues, and remarkable durability.
Originally, only select plates from Galápagos sea turtles were suitable for frame-making.
Today, these species are protected and critically endangered, the use of natural tortoiseshell is strictly prohibited under the Washington Convention. The few remaining pieces come from legally registered historical stocks, which explains their rarity and high value.
Lightweight, hypoallergenic, and incredibly resilient, tortoiseshell offers extraordinary longevity when cared for properly.
Working with this material requires a rare manual expertise, mastered by only a handful of specialized artisans.
We are privileged to collaborate with a certified tortoiseshell craftsman, who manages historical stocks in full compliance with international regulations, ensuring complete traceability and absolute respect for biodiversity.
